Track the time you spend on projects, automatically generate invoices, and receive payment online with this great tool. I've used FreshBooks to replace a complex mess of offline systems, saving me time and saving my clients money.
Get yourself organized! Manage your to-do lists, notes, calendars and reminders online. Send notes, lists and files to your Backpack pages by email, and get reminders by email or SMS (although the SMS option doesn't work in Australia). Sign-up is free.
Simply the most useful free online dictionary I've found. It also includes a thesaurus and encyclopedia.
Article submission sites
One of the biggest and most popular article submission sites.
Helium actually pays you (modestly) for articles from their advertising revenue. You don't get to put a resource box on your article, but visitors can click through to your Helium profile.
Websites to learn from
Grist is an environmental news, humour and commentary website. I mention Grist here because their fun use of language throughout – in headlines, links and content – adds appeal and attracts readers. They also make great use of a range of distribution technologies without sacrificing clarity.
